Black Barn ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 23-Oct-2012
Full, even, bright straw-yellow colour with light green-gold hues. Intense aromas of yellow stonefruits with distinctive, savoury, funky nutty, oak and barrel-ferment aromas combine with citrus fruits and minerals forming a complex and detailed bouquet in the burgundian style. Full-bodied, complex and layered flavours of savoury citrus fruits, nutty oak, flint and oxidative elements show with richness and a luscious mouthfeel. The flavours are brought to focus by crisp, lively acidity that provides a vibrant linearity and clarity that carries through to a very long and sustained finish that unfolds layers of fruit, oak and nutty nuances. This is a complex Chardonnay with layers of citrusy fruit, nutty oak, and funky oxidative elements in a fresh white burgundy style. Match with wild poultry and pork dishes over the next 4-6 years. Hand-picked Chardonnay, WBP and fermented in a new puncheon by indigenous yeasts, and 3 y.o. barriques inoculated for ferment, to 13.5% alc. 45% of the oak new, the wine aged 10 months in barrel with no MLF and batonnage of wine in older oak. 18.5+/20 Oct 2012 RRP $48.90
