Black Barn ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 14-Sep-2011
The first release of a ‘Reserve' Chardonnay, Mendoza, clone 15 and B95 fruit sourced from the Tuki Tuki Valley and Havelock Hills, fully barrel fermented, partly with indigenous yeasts to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in 55% new French oak for 10 months on lees with 100% MLF. Bright straw-yellow colour with a light golden hue and a pale edge, the bouquet is one of great refinement and clarity, showing a complex amalgam of mealy stonefruit, cream and butter with fine nuttiness from barrel-fermentation all integrated and balanced. Medium full-bodied, rich, succulent citrus and mealy fruit flavours and layers of toasty, nutty oak unfold on the palate. Elegance and concentration are the features. The textures are very refined, with excellent acidity for nervosity. The finish is very long and sustained, with waves of fruit and oak flowing. Match with grilled seafood and poultry over the next 4-5+ years. 19.0-/20 Sep 2011 RRP $44.90
