Black Barn ‘Hawke’s Bay Unoaked Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 26-Aug-2015
Bright straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, paler on edge. The nose is softly full with fresh, bright and rich aromas of yellow stonefruits and tropical fruits, along with subtle minerally lees and nuances of lemon curd MLF. The aromatic depth and density grows in the glass. Medium-bodied, plush, juicy, lively and up-front flavours of yellow stonefruits and lift, sweet citrus fruits fill the palate to provide good body, mouthfeel and presence. Layers of subtle detail unfold, revealing tropical fruit, flinty minerals and buttery and creamy elements. The wine flows smoothly, following a very fine-textured line with fresh acid background, leading to a long, softly concentrated sweet-fruited finish. This is a rich, juicy, upfront unoaked Chardonnay with citrus and tropical fruit flavours. Match with seafood, poultry and antipasto dishes over the next 3+ years. Clones 6, 15, 95 and Mendoza with some 548, predominantly from estate fruit with a little Triangle fruit cool-fermented, partially with indigenous yeasts in stainless-steel to 13.0% alc., the wine aged with 3 months of batonnge, avoiding MLF. 18.0+/20 Aug 2015 RRP $22.90
