Dark ruby-red colour with a good heart, lighter on rim. The bouquet is full and gently voluminous with clear Tempranillo varietal sweet and savoury aromas of dark red fruits with spices, red floral detail and a little oak cedar. Medium-full bodied, the flavours are a little subdued initially, but reveal layers of lifted red fruits with earth, cedar, spices and a little vanilla, forming a solid, rounded palate core. The mouthfeel is weighty with fine, supple tannins providing good texture and structure underlining the fruit. This has sweetness and a juiciness, enlivened by good acidity and the vitality leads to a long and sustained finish. Though a little restrained at present, this Tempranillo is packed with juicy varietal flavours and has a supple, weighty mouthfeel. Serve with Middle Eastern far and roasted red meats over the next 5-7 years. Fruit from the ‘Cranwell’ vineyard in the Havelock Hills, from vines 3-5 y.o., fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 8 months in seasoned oak barrels. 50 dozen made. 18.0/20 Jun 2013 RRP $44.90
