Black Barn Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 14-Sep-2011
Fruit from the ‘Smith' vineyard, Dartmoor Valley, destemmed and fermented to 13.5% alc., aged 7 months in 60% new French oak barrels. Bright, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, this has an elegant but very concentrated and intense, pure bouquet of dark red berry fruits, white and black pepper, violetty florals and Asian spices that develops an ethereal lift. Medium-bodied, this is refined and beautifully proportioned with succulent black fruit, spicy pepper, liquorice and floral flavours. The tannins are very fine-grained and discreet and combined with the fresh acidity provide a flowing silky structure with excellent tension and liveliness. The long finish shows nuances of spicy black fruits. A refined, smooth and aromatic wine to match with Asian and Middle Eastern pork, lamb and beef dishes over the next 5-7 years. 18.5+/20 Sep 2011 RRP $32.90
