40% Havelock Hills and 55% Gimblett Gravels Montepulciano with 5% Malbec, fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 8 months in 25% new oak barrels. Full, dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is tightly bound with a core of fresh, dark red berry fruits along with nuances of minerals and fragrant dark herbs. A whisker of reduction dissipates revealing dark florals. Medium-bodied, the flavours of dark berry fruits, plums, minerals, earth and spices show with excellent presence. The fruit is sweet and has an underlying succulence, enhanced by balanced acidity resulting in a mouthwatering appeal. Very fine-grained, harmonious tannins support the palate, and the mouthfeel has density and a soft completeness. The flavours finish with restraint. This is sweet-fruited Montepulciano with a soft, complete presence. Match with slow-cooked red meat dishes over the next 5-6 years. 100 dozen made. 17.5+/20 Jun 2013 RRP $38.90
