Black Barn ‘Barrel Fermented’ Hawke’s Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2007

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 14-Sep-2011
Estate Havelock Hills fruit fully barrel-fermented in 20% new French oak to 14.0% alc. and dryness, the wine aged 10 months in oak on lees, 80% undergoing MLF. Fullish straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, this has an individual and complex bouquet of green plums and dried herbs along with nutty-oxidative, smoky elements and a chalky nuance. Dry and powerful on palate, this has brash and intense flavours of dried herbs, sweetly ripe greengages and nutty, oxidative barrel work forming a solid core. There is plenty of acidity which provides a firm line, and the wine shows some grainy textures, leading to a long finish. A more complex, nutty Sauvignon to match with Mediterranean seafood and vegetable dishes over the next 3-4+ years. 17.0+/20 Sep 2011 RRP $24.90
