Black Barn ‘Barrel Fermented’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 26-Aug-2015
Brilliant, very pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, very pale on rim. The nose is well-concentrated with intense and tightly held aromas of white and yellow stonefruits, citrus fruits, and interwoven flinty, reductive elements, nutty and toasty oak and mineral complexities. The fruit and aromatics are fresh, lively and taut in expression. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegantly proportioned with a concentrated core of white stonefruits and citrus fruits harmoniously complexed by flint and mineral reductive notes, and nutty, mealy, toasty oak. The mouthfeel is very refined in texture and enlivened by bright, lacy acidity, lending energy and vitality to the palate line. The wine carries through to a very long, lingering finish with citrus, flint and oak nuances. This is an elegantly concentrated, vibrant but harmonious, complex Chardonnay with stonefruit, flint and nutty oak flavours. Serve with seafood and poultry over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 6, 15, 95 and Mendoza with some 548, 80% estate fruit the remainder Triangle fruit, WBP, 80% indigenous yeast, full barrel-fermentation to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 35% new puncheons and barriques, the wine undergoing batonnage and 60% MLF. 18.5+/20 Aug 2015 RRP $34.90
