Bisquertt ‘Petirrojo’ ‘Reserva’ Colchagua Valley Merlot 2012

Merlot from Chile
Review Date : 22-Feb-2014
Very full, dark, black-red colour with some garnet-red on rim. This has a full, bold and densely concentrated nose of dark raspberry and plum aromas with a herbal underlay and savoury, resinous oak elements. Ripe dark red plum jam and chocolate nuances emerge in the glass. Dryish to taste and medium-full bodied, sweet and lusciously juicy, primary flavours of plums and raspberries fill the mouth. The fruit depth is supported by supple tannin extraction and the sweetness is enhanced by discreet acidity. Some alcohol warmth and drive becomes apparent and carries the flavours to a fine-textured lingering finish. This is a bold, warm and sweetly plush Merlot with ripe fruit and fine tannin background. Serve with roasted red meat dishes and past over the next 4+ years. Fruit from 12 y.o. vines in the Colchagua Valley fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 4-6 months in French oak barrels. 17.5-/20 Feb 2014 RRP $24.95
