Bird Hawke’s Bay Cabernet/Merlot 2014

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Jun-2016
Very dark, black-hues ruby-red colour, near impenetrable, lighter edged. Softly full and densely packed on the nose, this has ripe, savoury dark red and black berried fruits alongside blackcurrants, melded with iron and earth, game and funky cedary notes. This has concentration and a fulsome depth. Medium-full bodied, the palate has weight and presence with deeply packed flavours of dark-red berry fruit, earthy plums, blackcurrant, and notes of funky game and oak. The mouthfeel s robust and well-structured with plenty of extract and structure, and fresh, lacy, underlying acidity lends subtle energy. The wine flows to a robust, textural finish of savoury red berry fruits, plums and currants, and earthy, gamey interest. This is a fulsome Cabernet/Merlot with robust structure and savoury red fruits with game and earth complexities. Match with slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 6+ years. A blend of 67.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32.7% Merlot from the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.4% alc., the wine aged 14 months in French and American oak, 30% new. 18.0-/20 Jun 2016 RRP $29.95
