Bird ‘Big Barrel’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 22-Sep-2015
Dark ruby-red colour, lighter on the edge. This has a soft, full nose that gently grows in depth and intensity showing a rounded core of ripe, dark raspberry fruit harmoniously interwoven with layers of spicy red plums, red liquorice and herbal nuances. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a soft, full and openly accessible heart of raspberry fruit flavours. Layers of spicy plums, red liquorice, red florals and subtle herbal elements unfold. The fruit is sweet and the mouthfeel smooth flowing, with fine, grainy tannin extraction providing balancing texture and structure. Soft acidity enhances the fruit juiciness, and the wine carries through to a moderately long finish with raspberry and liquorice nuances. This is a gently full, sweet-fruited Pinot Noir with flavours of raspberries and liquorice, and a fine, grainy texture. Serve with poultry and pork dishes over the next 4-5+ years. Fruit from the ‘Dayvinleigh’ vineyard, destemmed and given a cold soak, fermented in 900 L barrels to 13.8% alc., the wine 24 days on skins and aged 11 months in 15% new 900 L French oak. 18.0-/20 Sep 2015 RRP $29.95
