Bird ‘Big Barrel’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 12-Jul-2013
Light ruby-red colour with purple hues, lighter on rim, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is full in volume with ethereal perfumes of ripe red berry fruits and florals, along with subtle, lifted whole berry notes. Some spice, herb and resiny oak elements are interwoven. Medium-bodied, fresh, succulently soft red berry fruits and red florals feature on the palate. The mouthfeel is fresh with lacy acidity, and supple, restrained tannins form a gentle core and line. Spices, herbs and a little oak add detail to the bright, primary fruit. The tannin structure grows in presence and carries the flavours to a sustained, dry, crisp finish. This is an attractively soft textured, red fruited Pinot Noir with youthful freshness. Serve with poultry, pork and Asian cuisine over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from the ‘Dayvinleigh’ vineyard off SH63, west of Renwick, fermented to 13.5% alc. and aged in 900 L oak barrels for nearly a year. 1,500 cases made. 17.5+/20 Jul 2013 RRP $29.99
