Bellbird Spring ‘River Terrace’ Waipara Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 04-Feb-2013
Moderately deep ruby-red with some purple hues, quite restrained on bouquet, but with good presence and vinosity. More elegant and tight on palate, all quite restrained, but exuding finesse. Soft and very fine-grained tannins, yet with linearity, the tannins the feature, and the fruit in the background. 17.5+/20 Jan 2013 A wine designed to express the Waipara river soils. Fruit from three sites on Glasnevin Gravel soils along the Waipara river fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine spending 4 weeks on skins and aged 12 months in 15% new oak. Dark ruby-red colour with good depth and fullness. The bouquet is soft and gentle with lifted, ethereal red berry and floral aromas, revealing hints of savoury earth, mineral and seasoned oak elements. Medium-bodied, subtle fruit flavours of red berry fruits and floral notes show with some secondary nuances of earth, and are framed by fine-grained tannins that build to feature on the palate. This has significant extraction that provides fulsome structure, and the full mouthfeel is enhanced by soft acidity. The tannins carry the fruit to a dry, grainy finish that lingers. This is a subtly fruited Pinot Noir with plenty of fine textures that carry the mouthfeel. Serve with coq au vin and slow-cooked red meats over the next 5-6+ years. 17.5-/20 Sep 2012 RRP $36.00
