Bellbird Spring ‘Home Block White’ Waipara 2009

Blended White from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 12-Sep-2012
Bright, full, straw-yellow to light golden colour with some depth. The nose is softly full and aromatic with an amalgam of savoury yellow stonefruits intermingling with honey, creaming soda and floral-grapey notes. A little nuttiness indicates oxidative winemaking. Off-dry to medium to taste, restrained flavours of tropical fruits, honey and savoury florals are harmoniously expressed and integrated with the sweetness. Fine acidity underlines the palate lending a degree of finesse and elegance, and the flavours flow seamlessly to a sustained finish with honey and exotic spice notes. This is an elegant but subtly luscious white with aromatic detail and interest. Serve with Thai, Japanese or Vietnamese cuisine over the next 3-4 years. Approx. 60% Pinot Gris and equal proportions of Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Muscat from the ‘Home' block, wild yeast fermented in old oak to 12.5% alc. and 25 g/L rs, the wine aged on lees 4-5 months. 18.0-/20 Sep 2012 RRP $32.00
