Batch Winery Thomas Legacy Cabernet Franc 2021, Waiheke Island

Cabernet Franc from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 16-Jul-2023
Full, deep purple with a ruby core, lighter on the rim. The bouquet is layered and pronounced, with aromas of blackcurrant, plum, violet, vanilla, cedar and currant leaf. Full-bodied, aromas of blackcurrant and plum have a sweet core, entwined with vanilla, cedar, violet and an amalgam of spice, and a subtle hint of currant leaf added complexity. The wine is well-balanced with succulent fruit and fine acidity. Fine-grained oak layer integration enhanced complexity and intensity. This Cabernet Franc is alluring with perfectly ripe fruit and clever use of oak; it shows lushness and lengthy complex layers. Match with veal chop and slow-roasted lamb shoulder over the next 8-10 years. Clone 214 (51%), 326 (49%) spontaneous fermentation, 100% MLF in vat, aged 12 months, 40% oak. 13.5% alc. 1,400 bottles produced. 19/20 pts (95 pts) July 2023 RRP $75
