Cabernet Franc from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 01-Aug-2022
Deep, dense purple red, lighter on the rim. This has a full, lifted herbaceous bouquet, aromas of blackberries, plums entwined with tobacco, new oak and vine leaf. Full-bodied, aromas of blackberries and plums have a bright core, underlying liquorice, tobacco, alongside vine leaf, violet, vanilla and nutmeg. The fruit is succulent with purity, driven by lively, juicy acidity. Fine-grained tannins left a lightly chewy and structured palate. This attractive Cabernet Franc shows beautiful herbaceous details with a red-fruit core, enriched by tobacco and spice on a velvety mouthfeel. Match with beef brisket and lamb loin over the next 8+ years. Fruit from Church Bay Vineyard, organically farmed, spontaneous fermentation to 13.7% alc, aged 11 months in French oak, 33% new oak, spontaneous MLF in vat. 923 bottles produced. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Aug 2022 RRP $75
