Batch Winery Blanc de Gris NV, Waiheke Island

Sparkling Wine from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 11-May-2023
Bright, eve, pale yellow. Moderately fine bead. The nose is fresh with lush aromas of pear, quince, rock melon, honeysuckle and creamy details. Medium-bodied, full and creamy mousse on the palate, lifting aromas of ripe pear, quince paste rock melon, honeysuckle, spice and pear skins. The flavour is full and forward with a vibrant acid line, balancing the off-dry palate. A touch of spice lingers with a crisp yet juicy finish. This Blanc de Gris is amiable and inviting with forward lush fruit, a juicy acid line and an appetising finish. Designed to drink young and fresh, serve as an aperitif or match with pork rillette over the next 2-3 years. A blend of Pinot Gris and Flora, combined three vintages. 90% cool-fermented from 2021 Pinot Gris and 2022 Flora, 10% from 2017 field blend rose base made in Traditional Method and aged on lees for 4 years. The 2017 portion disgorged and blended into the Blanc de Gris, made by Charmat method, 13% alc. 18/20 pts (90 pts) May 2023 RRP $50
