Barton & Guestier Chateau Magnol Haut-Medoc AOC 2017, Bordeaux

Blended Red from France - Bordeaux
Review Date : 09-Aug-2021
Deep, ruby-red with density, lighter on the rim. The nose is gently full with good energy, aromas of red berries, plums entwined with sweet floral, elegant cedar, vanilla and sweet spices, underlying subtle stony minerals. Full-bodied, nuances of red berries, plums are bright, melded with savoury herbs, cedar, sweet floral and spices. Fine-grained tannin extraction is robust, filled the palate with a firm yet fine grip, unfolding barrel spices, cedar, vanilla along a mineral line. The fruit has good vibrancy, flows with integrated acidity to a sweet-scented, elegant finish; savoury development adds complexity. This is a classic cru Bourgeois with bright red fruit, savoury elements and a robust palate. Match with roasted bone marrow and garlic butter steak over the next 5-8 years. A blend of 50% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot, destemmed, warm fermented to 13% alc, 3 weeks maceration, MLF, aged in barrels for 12 months, 30% new oak. 18-/20 pts (89 pts) Aug 2021 RRP $54.99
