Barbanera Chianti DOCG 2012

Sangiovese from Italy - Tuscany
Review Date : 10-Mar-2014
Very dark, deep, black-red colour, a little lighter on rim. The nose is moderately full and well-packed with deep aromas of bitter red cherry fruit and subtle layers of sweetly lifted raspberry fruits and complexing savoury nuances. Medium-bodied and elegant in proportion, tightly bound fruit flavours of bright and subtly sweet bitter cherries are the feature on palate. This is up-front and accessible, showing some layers of earth and savoury herbal interest. The fruit sweetness is countered by light, dry tannin extract, with elevated acidity providing energy and drive for the flavours along a fine tannin line. The acidity carries the wine to the sustained finish. This is an archetype fruity Chianti with sweet bitter cherry flavours and noticeable tannin and acidity featuring. Match with pizza, casseroles and semi-hard cheeses over the next 3-4+ years. Made from Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo and Canaiolo, fermented to 13.0% alc. 17.0/20 Mar 2014 RRP $15.00
