Bannock Brae ‘Marlene’s’ Central Otago Gruner Veltliner 2016

Gruner Veltliner from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 10-Mar-2017
Bright, light straw colour with slight green hues, paler on the rim. This is fresh and delicately expressed on the nose with fresh herb, white stonefruit, white pepper and floral aromas which build to form a tight, elegant core. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the flavours are up-front with good depth, showing white stonefruits with subtle green stonefruit and herb elements, along with white pepper. The fruit has good breadth and mouthfilling, but shows brightness and vibrancy, the lacy acidity lending vitality. The palate is underlined by fine-grainy phenolic textures that balance the fruitiness, and carries to a subtly nuanced, moderately long finish. This is a rich-fruited dry Gruner Veltliner with fresh acidity and fine phenolic textures. Match with poultry, pork and veal dishes over the next 3+ years. Hand-picked fruit, foot-stomped and WBP, and fermented in seasoned oak to 13.4% alc. and 2.45 g/L RS, the wine aged 5 months on lees undergoing batonnage. 17.5+/20 Mar 2017 RRP $24.00
