Bannock Brae ‘Marlene’s’ Central Otago Gruner Veltliner 2015

Gruner Veltliner from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 29-Jun-2016
Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues. The nose is fresh and tightly bound with aromas of white stonefruits entwined with delicate notes of fresh herbs, green stonefruits and a suggestion of white pepper. The nose is expressed with clarity and steeliness and builds in intensity with aeration. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is fresh with gentle flavours of white stonefruits, herbs, white pepper and minerals. The mouthfeel is soft, smooth and rounded with a slippery flow, enhanced by fine, soft acidity. There is an underlying line of power and the wine flows along a fine phenolic thread, leading to a light, dry, herb-nuanced finish. This is a fresh, restrained Gruner Veltliner with subtle flavours, a smooth flowing palate and fine-textures. Serve with Thai, Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine over the next 3 years. 100% Gruner Veltliner, hand-picked, foot-stomped and WBP, and fermented with light solids in seasoned French oak barriques to 13.7% alc. and 0.64 g/L RS, the wine aged 6 months in barrel undergoing batonnage. Winemaker: Jen Parr. 17.5-/20 Jul 2016 RRP $25.00
