Ballasalla Central Otago Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 25-Jun-2012
Made from younger Dijon clone and clones 5 and 6 from the ‘Folding Hill' vineyard in Bendigo, indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in barrel. Very dark, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. This has a full, voluminous bouquet of ripe dark berry and cherry aromas with a little raspberry confectionary and underlying dark herb notes. Medium-bodied, this is soft and mellow in mouthfeel with attractively well-ripened fruit flavours of black plums and berries along with oak spice notes. The flavours are mouthfilling and soft acidity adds to the generosity. The tannins build and become prominent on the back palate carrying through to a long finish with spicy oak and dark fruits. This is a fulsome and rounded Pinot Noir with ripe fruit and spiciness that has plenty of extract and grip to match game meat dishes over the next 4-6+ years. 17.5/20 Jun 2012 RRP $29.00
