Bald Hills ‘Single Vineyard’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 16-May-2011
A barrel-selection with predominantly clones 10/5 and 115, the fruit was given a cold soak and fermented with 30% whole bunches to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in 40% new French oak barrels for 11 months. Full, deep, ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, this has a very primary, dark red berry and cherry fruit nose lifted by violetty perfumes, the florals very aromatically inviting. An elegant, medium-weighted, tightly bound wine on palate, the bright dark berry, cherry and violet flavours are a little shy, but the concentration and depth is clear. The fruit is framed within a very smooth, velvety textured structure with refreshing acidity. A youthful wine featuring a lovely aromatic profile and fine mouthfeel, this is sure to unfold more over the next 6-8 years. A wine to match with duck, pork and Asian food. 18.5/20 May 2011 RRP $45.50
