Bald Hills ‘Single Vineyard’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2008

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 16-May-2011
Full, deep, even ruby-red in colour, this has a full, robust bouquet of savoury dark red berry fruits and plums with mushrooms, earth and oak toast nuances. Near full-bodied, this is vibrant and lively on palate with bright red berry and cherry flavours with complex secondary spice, dried herb and fungal elements starting to appear. The wine is now beginning to soften and round out, but the tannin grip is fine and combines with the acidity to provide a blossoming finish of length. Fruit from the ‘Cornish Point Road' vineyard, given a cold soak, and fermented with 30% whole bunches to 14.0% alc., the wine then aged 11 months in 35% new French oak barrels. Match with firm flesh fish, duck and pork over the next 6-7+ years. 18.5-/20 May 2011 RRP $45.50
