Babich ‘Winemakers’ Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 08-Feb-2011
Medium deep, dark ruby-red with some purple hues to the colour, this has a bouquet of dark red plums, tobacco and earth that combines fragrance and savoury interest. Dry on palate, this is medium-full bodied with intense dark plum and earth fruit flavours enhanced by bright, fresh acidity and moderate tannin extraction. This has a sinewy texture, and along with the flavoursome fruit, it should be a good match with roasted red meats and game over the next 4-7 years. 100% Merlot from the Gimblett Road Vineyard, fermented to 13.5% alc., then aged two years in new and seasoned French oak. 17.5+/20 Jan 2011 RRP $24.95
