Babich ‘Winemakers’ Reserve’ ‘Gimblett Road Vineyard’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2012

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 16-Mar-2014
Very full, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, near impenetrable. The bouquet is elegant and tightly held, with a complex and layered infusion of black berried fruit, herbs, game, earthy reduction, revealing black pepper, spices and violet florals that unfold from the core. Medium-light bodied, light and restrained, but positively expressed fruit flavours of black berries, black pepper and spices are framed by soft tannins and rounded extraction. The acidity is soft, and mouthfeel gentle, allowing the flavours to open out and fill the palate. The flavours recede quietly leaving a subtle, sweetly nuanced finish. This is a restrained Syrah with softly sweet flavours. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 4 years. Fruit from the ‘Irongate’ vineyard fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 33% new French oak. 17.5-/20 Mar 2014 RRP $30.00
