Babich ‘Lone Tree’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2011

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 28-Nov-2012
68% Merlot and 32% Cabernet Sauvignon from the ‘Irongate' vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged in oak 6 months. Full, even, dark ruby-red colour. This has a light, soft nose, quite harmonious with integrated aromas of dark berry fruits along with subtle herbal elements and a little oak cedar. Medium-bodied, the flavours of berry fruit, plums and cedar are soft, shy and mellow in expression. The mouthfeel is smooth and near-seamless with bright acidity and light, supple tannins underlining the restrained fruitiness. The palate has good presence and a soft herby, cedary finish. This is a well-made, harmonious and gently flavoured Merlot-based wine to serve with pasta and barbecued red meats over the next 3+ years. 16.0+/20 Nov 2012 RRP $15.00
