Babich ‘Lone Tree’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-Jun-2011
Dark, deep, ruby-red with purple hues to the colour. This has an attractive, complex nose of ripe plum and dark red berry fruit with a floral lift, alongside classical Merlot dried herb and tobacco notes. Medium-weighted,the fruit flavours of herbs, tobacco and plums are sweet and succulent and backed by moderate tannin extraction and fresh acidity. A little alcohol warmth counters the herbaceous nuances, and the wine has a lusciousness and harmony. Serve with pizza, pasta, casseroles and barbecued meat over the next 4-5 years. 51% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc from the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged in oak 6 months. 17.0+/20 Jun 2011 RRP $15.00
