Babich ‘Irongate’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2008

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 08-Feb-2011
Bright green-gold hued straw yellow in colour, this has a very tightly bound, fine and elegant nose of subtle white stonefruits, delicate oak nuttiness and minerals. This is a wine with understated power, possessing a dense core of concentrated stoneftuit flavours allied to mealiness, nutty oak and steel. Some alcohol warmth and body is noticeable, but the acidity is fresh, resulting in an excellent overall balance. The fruit is sourced from a single vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, whole bunch pressed and wild yeast barrel fermented to 14.5% alc., then aged 11 months in oak, 25% new. This will develop well over the next 5-6 years. 18.5+/20 Jan 2011 RRP $34.95
