Babich ‘Irongate’ Hawke’s Bay Cabernet/Merlot/Franc 2010

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Oct-2011
Deep, fullish, dark ruby-red, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is fresh and very aromatic with intense dark berry and floral notes with sweet game and earth complexities. Medium-full bodied, bright, vibrant dark red berry fruit flavours are lifted with red floral elements as well as earth and minerals. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity providing excellent focus and backbone allied to energy and tension. The palate unfolds layers of interest, with oak cedar and spices lingering on a sustained finish. A super-premium label for Babich from the 1985 vintage, this is 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 32% Cabernet Franc from the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.0% alc. and matured 13 months in 40% new French oak. This vibrant and focussed red features excellent fruit fragrance and will become richer and more complex over the next 7-9+ years. Match with roasted lamb and beef. 18.5+/20 Oct 2011 RRP $35.00
