Babich ‘Irongate’ Hawke’s Bay Cabernet/Merlot/Franc 2008

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 08-Feb-2011
Sister wine to the ‘Irongate' Chardonnay. 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from a single vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, aged 18 months in new and seasoned French oak barrels. This has a full, dark, deep purple hued ruby red colour and a fresh, youthful nose of blackcurrants, cassis, black plums, nuanced by floral perfumes and minerals. At 13.0% alc., this is an elegant, tightly bound wine which has fresh, primary black and red berry fruit flavours framed within a well-proportioned palate structure based on fine-grained, but significant tannins and excellent acidity. Oaking is subtle and perfect, giving a touch of spice and shine. Drink with roast lamb over the next 6-8 years. 18.0/20 Jan 2011 RRP $34.95
