Babich ‘Irongate’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 19-Mar-2014
Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Irongate’ vineyard, WBP, indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 20% new French oak with batonnage and 20% MLF. Full, even, light golden-yellow colour. The nose is elegant with an amalgam of savoury grapefruit and yellow stonefruit aromas integrated with subtle barrel-ferment nuttiness and mealy detail. Medium-bodied, light and tightly held flavours of savoury citrus fruits slowly reveal layers of nuts and spicy, mealy oak. There is richness and sweetness to the palate core, and a soft barrel-ferment creaminess. The mouthfeel is restrained and balanced and flows smoothly to a light, dry, textured and moderatey sustained finish. This is an elegant and subtly nuanced Chardonnay with creamy citrus and nutty detail. Serve with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4+ years. 17.5+/20 Mar 2014 RRP $35.00
