Babich ‘Family Estates’ ‘Individual Vineyard – Headwaters Organic Block’ Marlborough Gruner Veltliner 2012

Gruner Veltliner from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 03-Sep-2012
Second crop fruit from the ‘Headwaters' organic block in the Wairau Valley, given some skin contact and cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.0% alc. and 1.6 g/L rs. Bright straw-yellow colour with green hues, pale on rim. Delicately soft, but full aromas of white pepper, herbs and celery build with depth and volume in the glass. Dry to taste, up-front, but softly concentrated flavours of pepper, herbs and white stonefruits show with good weight. A subtle textural thread forms a good palate line adding to the mouthfeel, and fresh acidity contributes to the liveliness and grip. The wine has good length, finishing crisp and dry, with some graininess. This is a textural, subtle-flavoured Gruner Veltliner. Serve with antipasto and poultry dishes over the next 2-3 years. Certified Biogro organic. 17.5-/20 Sep 2012 RRP $25.00
