Fruit from the ‘Irongate’ vineyard, given 5 hours skin contact and fermented in seasoned French oak puncheons and barriques to 14.0% alc. and 4.6 g/L RS, the wine aged 5 ½ months on lees. Bright, even straw-yellow colour with pale green hues. The nose is elegant and has a subtle array of aromatics with layers of rose-petal florals, root ginger, creaming soda infused with savoury, reductive flinty lees and barrel-work. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, gently mouthfilling flavours of spices and root ginger combine with rose-petal and exotic florals and a little gunflint detail. This has a concentrated and rounded core, along with drive and some alcoholic power. The flavours follow a soft, textural line to a dry finish with some varietal bitterness. This is a soft-textured and weighty dry Gewurztraminer with ginger and savoury exotic flavours. Match with pork dishes and Niddle Eastern fare over the next 4+ years. 18.0-/20 Mar 2014 RRP $25.00
