Awatere River ‘Single Vineyard’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 31-Aug-2016
Bright straw-yellow with light golden hues, paler on the rim. The nose is firmly concentrated and deeply packed with intense aromas of ripe white and yellow stonefruits along with a complex amalgam of creamy, savoury barrel-ferment and nutty oak, flinty detail and nuances of lemon curd MLF. The aromatics unfold in waves of detail. Medium-full bodied, the palate features rich and softly concentrated flavours that unfold complex layers showing ripe stonefruit and citrus frit, nutty and toasty oak, subtle flint and mineral elements and nuances of lemon-curd. The mouthfeel is fine-textured and smooth flowing with ripe, underlying acidity, and the flavours build to form a well-concentrated heart. The wine carries easily to a long finish with savoury stonefruit and nutty oak notes. This is a rich, softly concentrated and complex layered Chardonnay with a smooth mouthfeel and flow. Match with roast pork over the next 4+ years. Mendoza clone fruit, fully barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 20% new French oak barrels with batonnage and 35% MLF. 18.5/20 Sep 2016 RRP $32.00
