Awatere River Marlborough Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 08-Sep-2014
Light ruby-red with some depth, lighter on rim. The nose is full and voluminous with ripe dark red cherry and berry fruit aromas infused with spicy oak elements. Lifted red florals and dark herb nuances emerge in the glass. Medium-full bodied, up-front, mouthfilling flavours of sweet red berry fruits and spicy oak form a succulently rich palate. The fruit is underlined by fine-grained tannin extraction and bright, lively acidity. Subtle herb and floral complexities add detail. As the wine flows, the structure becomes more prominent and carries the wine to a long, lingering, dry-textured finish with oak spices. This is a full, rich fruited Pinot Noir with a spicy oak layering and a lingering, textured finish. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 5-6 years. Marlborough fruit from 3 sites, destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented with a high portion of whole berries to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 30% new oak barriques. 18.5-/20 Sep 2014 RRP $31.00
