Auntsfield Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2018, Marlborough

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 09-Jun-2020
Bright, light yellow with depth and a tinge of gold, even colour throughout. The bouquet is full and broad with aromas of rockmelon, peaches and citrus fruit smoothly melded with a creamy layer of butter, flinty struck matches with complexity oxidative, underlying fragrant oak elements of nut and spices. Medium-bodied, the palate is rich with rockmelon, peaches, savoury citrus fruit and a layer of a compelling flinty stuck match, spice and nutty oak details, creamy lees interest. The mouthfeel is creamy and fresh with sublime mouthwatering acidity; good energy flows with barrel-fermented fine-textured phenolic to a chalky mineral finish. This is a firm-textured, bright and lively Chardonnay with barrel-fermented complexity; flinty struck matches and creamy details. Serve with cheese fondue and grilled crayfish over the next five years. Handpicked, whole bunch pressed, French oak barriques fermented and aged on lees. 18/20pts June 2020 RRP $36
