Auburn Northburn Central Otago Riesling 2012

Riesling from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 10-Feb-2013
Very pale straw-yellow, pale on rim. The nose is very finely intense with beautifully seamless depth of citrus and honied aromas and hints of minerals. This has excellent concentration. Medium to medium-sweet to taste, this is fine and elegant in proportion, the flavours of limes and honey quite delicate and detailed. Excellent zesty acidity and a little tingling effervescence provide a raciness to the mouthfeel, and the palate line shows a very fine textural line. This is beautifully fine, racy and textured. Fermented to 11.0% alc. and 36 g/L rs. 18.5-/20 Feb 2013 Fruit from vines planted in 1999 in soils with free-draining sand, loess and gravel, WBP and cool-fermented to 11.0% alc. and 36 g/L rs, with TA 8.6 g/L and pH 2.83. Bright, very pale straw-green colour, near colourless on rim. The nose is very soft and elegant in expression and builds in volume showing white florals and minerals, along with subtle lime and green apple aromas, complexed by delicate sweet and sour notes and nuances of flint. Medium in sweetness, the flavours of limes, white florals and minerals are soft and reserved, still very tightly bound. The mouthfeel is very fine and soft in texture, underlined by refined and discreet acidity which emerges to carry the subtle, growing flavours to a very long and sustained finish, highlighting detailed nuances of citrus fruits and steely minerals. This is a very fine, softly textured, medium Riesling with reserved and gentle floral and minerally flavous that will develop greater complexity and interest over the next 7-9+ years. Serve with antipasto and seafood. 878 bottles made. 18.0+/20 Oct 2012 RRP $28.00
