Ataahua Waipara Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 12-Oct-2011
Mainly 10/5 with some 115 clone fruit from mature vines on the ‘Church Road' site, destemmed and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in seasoned French oak. Light ruby-red colour with some depth and a light garnet edge, the bouquet features soft, savoury, cooked red fruits, dried herbs, earth and autumnal aromas. Medium-weighted, the fruit shows forward flavours of savoury, earthy red berry fruits and mushroom notes, but is kept lively and fresh with balanced acidity providing appropriate tension. Fine grained tannins and unassertive extraction allow the fruitiness to be the highlight. Match with risotto, pasta and poultry dishes with plenty of mushrooms over the next 3-4+ years. 16.5-/20 Oct 2011 RRP $34.00
