Ataahua Waipara Merlot 2010

Merlot from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 12-Oct-2011
Very dark, deep, ruby-red colour, this has a full, solid nose packed with herb, dark plum and dark currant aromas along with notes of mint and a little chocolate. Medium-full bodied, the herb, dark plum and minty-chocolate flavours are soft and concentrated, forming a densely packed core. Oaking is sensitive and adds a little toast and cedar. The wine has soft, rounded textures with soft tannin grip providing good line and backbone and the acidity is understated. A soft, dry and light finish completes the wine. 100% Merlot from mature vines from the ‘Church Road' site, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 14 months in seasoned French oak. A soft, but solid and flavoursome wine, the fruit in the cooler spectrum. Match with herb-marinated lamb and Mediterranean cuisine over the next 4-5 years. 16.0-/20 Oct 2011 RRP $26.00
