Ataahua Waipara Gewurztraminer 2012

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 08-Jan-2014
Gewurztraminer fruit given 6-24 hours skin contact and indigenous yeast fermented in stainless-steel to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 3 months on lees. Brilliant golden-hued straw-yellow with some depth. The bouquet is tightly packed and concentrated with aromas of yellow stonefruits, root ginger and minerally spice notes, revealing rose-petal florals and nutty elements from the firm core. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, rich and deep flavours of stonefruits, ginger and musky minerals form a well-proportioned palate with good power and drive. The phenolic handling is fine and the mouthfeel features good acid underlining the fruit and body. The flavours lead to a long, sustained finish with a characteristic floral, gingery, bitter finish. This is a classical dry-Alsace styled Gewurztraminer with gingery flavours and good power. Match with white meats and semi-hard cheeses over the next 4+ years. 18.0+/20 Jan 2014 RRP $24.00
