Ataahua Waipara Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 08-Jan-2014
Brilliant light golden colour, lighter on edge. This has a full, broad nose with firmly concentrated aromas of citrus and yellow stonefruits intermixed with nutty barrel-ferment, buttery MLF and flinty complexities. Toasty oak and savoury, nutty secondary development notes emerge in the glass. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a core of ripe citrus fruits and yellow stonefruits, enlivened by elevated acidity. Layers of nutty oak, butterscotch and toast unfold, adding interest and mouthfilling detail. The wine builds in power, alcohol drive and texture, leading to a fulsome and strong, robust finish with oxidative nutty elements carried by crisp acidity. This is a fulsome and traditional Chardonnay with strong citrus and nutty flavours, power and good acid liveliness. Match with creamy poultry and pork dishes over the next 3-4 years. Fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in seasoned French oak barrels with lees aging and partial MLF. 17.5-/20 Jan 2014 RRP $28.00
