Ata Rangi ‘Petrie’ Wairarapa Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 04-Jul-2011
Full straw-yellow colour with golden hues, this has a full, but elegant, layered nose of complex savoury yellow stonefruits, mealy, flinty elements and nuts, finely expressed but with real intensity. A stylish, well-proportioned wine, the palate has tightly bound flavours of savoury peaches with complex spicy, flinty, nutty flavours showing sweetness and succulence. Fresh acidity is balanced by gentle barrel-ferment creaminess and the wine has a very long, sustained finish with nutty oak and mealy fruit and minerally elements showing. Clones 15 and 6 from the ‘Petrie' vineyard, the fruit hand-picked and whole bunch pressed, fully barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 7 months in 18% new French oak on lees. 30% MLF. Match with seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 4-5+ years. 18.5-/20 Jul 2011 RRP $28.00
