Astrolabe ‘Voyage’ Marlborough Pinot Gris 2010

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 05-Feb-2011
This has a very pale, youthful, straw-yellow colour and an elegant, but intense nose of spiced pears and white stonefruits. Slightly sweet on front palate, rich pear, spice and honied flavours show with good depth and a tight fineness. Some alcohol warmth and oiliness is noticeable, adding to the presence. Through mid-palate, the wine firms up, becoming drier; this slight austerity allowing the spice nuances to carry through to the long, subtle finish. A Pinot Gris that will be food friendly, one to enjoy over the next 2-4 years. 95% Pinot Gris with 5% Gewurztraminer from the Waihopi and Awatere Valleys, nearly half of the fruithand picked and whole bunch pressed and fermented with solids. 13.5% alc. and 6.2 g/L rs. 17.5-/20 Jan 2011 RRP $21.99
