Astrolabe ‘Voyage’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 11-Oct-2011
Bright, light lemony-gold with green hues and a pale edge to the colour. This has a full, layered nose of complex aromatics with citrus fruit, nectarines, mealy, nutty oak and creamy MLF and barrel-ferment elements cut by flint and minerals. A powerfully intense and concentrated wine on palate, this has rich, lush and rounded, mouthfilling flavours of ripe citrus fruits and stonefruits, and a mealy, nutty and spicy oak amalgam. The textures are creamy, and are enhanced by buttery MLF notes. Fresh acidity balances the richness and brightens the fruit expression, enhancing the long, smooth finish. Mainly Mendoza and clone 15 fruit from the ‘Astrolabe Farm' and ‘Two Ponds' sites, WBP and barrel-fermented, partially by wild yeasts to 13.5% alc., given lees stirring, the wine aged 10 months, with 100% MLF. A rich, powerful and lush, creamy-textured wine to serve with poultry, pork and veal over the next 4-5 years. 18.5+/20 Oct 2011 RRP $22.99
