Astrolabe ‘Voyage’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2008

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 07-Feb-2011
Bright straw-yellow with a light golden hue to the colour, this has a very fine and elegantly proportioned bouquet of citrus and yellow stonefruits with mealy, nutty notes and MLF buttery elements. On palate, this is beautifully fine-featured and textured, a smooth, creaminess supporting the flavours of citrus, mealiness and nuts, along with butter. The malo component is quite prominent through mid-palate, but the wine finishes with a long and attractive nuttiness. This is a well-made Chardonnay to enjoy with seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 3-4 years. Mendoza and clone 15 fruit from the Astrolabe Farm and Two Ponds sites, Grovetown, fully barrel-fermented in French and U.S. oak, partially with native yeasts to 13.5% alc. Lees stirring and full malo conversion were employed, and the wine was aged in barrel for 10 months. 17.5+/20 Jan 2010 RRP $23.99
