Astrolabe ‘Vineyards’ ‘Wrekin Vineyard’ Marlborough Chenin Blanc 2011

Chenin Blanc from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 09-Oct-2012
Very pale straw-yellow with slight green hues. This has a fresh, full nose with varietal white stonefruit aromas along with peaches and minerals and barrel-ferment spiciness combined with flinty elements. Dry with marked flavours of tropical fruits allied to spicy oak, the palate is enlivened by racy, brisk acidity, yet the palate has a rounded fullness to the mouthfeel. The oaking is noticeable and the acidity assertive, but there is underlying Chenin Blanc varietal character. Give it some bottle-age, say 4-5 years. Fruit from the Southern Hills, fermented in seasoned barrels by indigenous yeast to 13.5% alc., the wine undergoing batonnage. 17.5/20 Oct 2012
