Astrolabe ‘Valleys’ Kekerengu Coast Pinot Gris 2011

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 11-Oct-2011
Fruit from Chris and Lynne Wilson's ‘Sleepers' vineyard in the Kekerengu Valley, south of the Awatere. WBP and cool-fermented to 13.0% alc. and 4.8 g/L rs. Brilliant light straw-yellow colour with slight green hues and a pale edge. This has an elegant and intriguing bouquet with a complex amalgam of spiced pears, baked apples, flora, honey and minerals, quite delicate expressed. Dryish to taste, subtly sweet and rich flavours of spiced pears and stonefruits laced with minerals form a core of fruit, balanced by fresh acidity. The palate is soft and finely textured, leading to a nuanced finish. A fine and delicate wine with subtle layers to match Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine over the next 3-4+ years. 18.0/20 Oct 2011 RRP $20.99
