The low alcohol, high residual sugar and acid Mosel kabinett style of Riesling is becoming more prevalent in New Zealand. This is Astrolabe's take on it, made from fruit from the Astrolabe Farm site in Grovetown, stop fermented at 9.0% alc. and 50 g/L rs. The wine has a low pH of 2.85. Pale straw-yellow with green hues to the colour, the aromas show a little bottle-age with honey and toast hints to the minerally, citrus-like fruit. Some reduction shows. Medium-sweet on palate, the floral and honey flavours, and richness are restrained, due to the reduction. The acidity is prominent, resulting in a savoury and sour nuance which will contribute to complexing interest as the wine develops.
