A barrel selection wine. Equal portions of Mendoza, 15 and 95 clone fruit, hand-picked, WBP and fully barrel-fermented, partially with indigenous yeasts to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 45% new French oak on lees without batonnage, but undergoing 100% MLF. Full, light straw-hued, light golden yellow colour with some depth. The nose is softly full and voluminous with aromas of rich and ripe citrus fruits along with mealy and nutty oak and creamy barrel-ferment elements. Nuances of toasty oak and oxidative complexities add detail, and the underlying steely freshness is balanced by lemon-curd MLF motes. Medium-full bodied, ripe and bright flavours of citrus fruits are enlivened by fresh acidity and zesty cut. Layers of mealy, nutty oak, toast and lemon-curb MLF build to form a strong and positive core with power, drive and depth. The brisk acidity energises and enlivens the mouthfeel, and combines to balance the creamy barrel ferment and MLF layers, leading to a long, toasty finish with some alcohol warmth. This is a rich, bright and lively, citrussy Chardonnay with toasty, creamy layer and a strong driven core and line. Match with roasted poultry, pork and veal over the next 4+ years.
